Welcome to the Neighborhood: Emeryville, CA

In an earlier post, Charles Schreiber wrote about the importance of respecting our valued tenants. The importance of respect in our community doesn’t end there. We also strive to support the broader ecosystem of local businesses outside our front doors, and facilitate sustainable growth in our neighborhoods.

To that end, we want to take an opportunity to share our appreciation for the Emeryville community, which we and our many tenants know and love. Nestled between Oakland and Berkeley in California’s East Bay, Emeryville has a thriving culture and business community basking in sunshine, vegan donuts, and great coffee. Let’s take a look…

Rudy’s Can’t Fail Café

4801 Hollis Street

Famous for its eclectic décor outfitted with punk-rock-inspired Barbie dolls and breakfast served all day.  Mike Dirnt of Green Day fame is a part owner of the celebrated diner. Go for the tasty food served in big portions; stay for the great music and friendly atmosphere.

A fixture of the East Bay farmers’ market circuit, Bacano Bakery opened a brick and mortar location in Emeryville in 2014. The bakery is known for its gluten-free sweet baked goods, savory lunch options, and cozy communal seating.

Authentic New York City Pizza–probably enough said–but for those looking for more reasons to visit you can expect excellent meatball subs and local beers on tap.

Pepples Donut Farm

6037 San Pablo Avenue

You can spot this shop on the Oakland-Emeryville border by the large, pink, sprinkled donut that sits out front. Serving vegan donuts in myriad evolving flavors (think Green Apple and Pumpkin Pie Spice during autumn), Pepples has a cult following that has recently expanded into San Francisco and Los Angeles.
